WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 14, 2015) — The OpenGov Foundation’s Executive Director Seamus Kraft released the following statement on winning the startup pitch competition at the 2016 Lincoln Initiative’s Reboot Conference on June 30, 2016 in San Francisco, CA:
“We came to the innovation capital of the world to share our vision for a better Congress that makes our democracy work for everyone. We’re honored that the judges recognized The Congressional Digital Service as the right approach to build trust, capacity and code within our first branch of government. That’s what we need to change the culture of the United States Congress. Thanks to Lincoln and their incredible supporters, we are $25,000 closer to the efficient, effective and open federal legislative branch everyone is seeking.
“Thank you to the Lincoln Initiative team, the judges and the event sponsors who made this possible. And thank you to all the other organizations that presented. Everyone on that stage should’ve won, and we simply won’t be able to create 21st century government at any level without all of us succeeding. We need a widespread spirit of innovation, a nationwide groundswell of support and a lot more organizations and people in order to close the gap between government and the people.
“We’re eager to share our approach and begin fixing the critical infrastructure. Please get in touch if you’re interested in discussing these issues on Twitter at @seamuskraft or by email at seamus@opengovfoundation.org.”
