Door Stop Awards to Honor Those Implementing Structural Transparency in Congress
Recognizing Efforts to Open the Doors of Congress to the American People and to Positive Change
WASHINGTON, DC (April 12, 2016) — The OpenGov Foundation will announce the inaugural winners of the Door Stop awards for transparency on Capitol Hill tonight. The new honor recognizes those in the federal legislative branch who have consistently created structural changes that result in long-term transparency. These transformative Members and staff didn’t just open the door to the public once, they installed a door stop to ensure that the United States Congress never closes again.
The annual awards recognize at least least one Republican and one Democrat Member or former Member and one Republican and one Democrat staffer. While these change-agents have contributed in different ways, their common attributes are two-fold. First, each has driven structural improvements, innovations and an openness that lasts, creatively using technology, information and a deep knowledge of Congressional systems. And second, each Door Stop Award Winner has kept the doors of the legislative branch open from within an incredibly challenging environment.
WHAT: Announcing the inaugural winners of the Door Stop awards.
WHEN: Tuesday, April 12, 5:30pm
WHERE: CTA Innovation House – 21 D Street Southeast, Washington, D.C. 20003
