“Don’t think of yourselves as civic hackers. Think of yourselves as civic superheroes.”
That’s what Seamus Kraft told the crowd of Wichita’s first civic hackathon during Riverfest this past weekend. He joined an excited groups of citizens and elected officials to connect, collaborate and create projects that make Wichita a better community to live. More than a dozen teams worked over 24 hours before presenting to a panel of judges who selected three teams to meet with City Manager Robert Layton to discuss resources and next steps for their projects.
Read coverage of the event and the finalists in The Wichita Eagle here.
Before the event, The OpenGov Foundation’s Seth Etter sat down with KSN-TV to discuss the weekend’s event and explain the format and his involvement with Open Wichita.
“We call ourselves a civic hacking group, we are trying to come up with creative solutions to problems in the city.” Watch the full clip to the left.
Finally, don’t miss the top ten things Seamus was stoked to see and do in Wichita. (He moved quickly through the list.) The list included visiting Keeper of the Plains sculpture, The OpenGov Foundation’s ‘Western White House‘ and meeting the community we’ve seen govern together on Drafts.Wichita.gov in person.
